San Diego Zoo

Day 2 of our quick getaway to San Diego was dedicated to their world famous, world class zoo. I knew it would be the main activity for the day, but we grossly underestimated how huge the zoo truly was! A group of four adults going with a plan and purpose as well as brisk pace did not cover the full zoo in the 9.5 hours we spent there.

Starting the day shortly after the doors opened at the zoo, we beelined to the top attraction: Giant Pandas. And by beelined, I mean got wildly distracted by pretty birds along the way. And by birds, I mean the wild hummingbirds everywhere, not even the birds in cages.

Then we had to check out the vibrating chairs. People think this tourist be crazy, yo!

Anyways, pandas.

There were two male pandas, a mature and young panda. While Young Panda paced and played, Papa Panda demonstrated he has life all figured out.
That's how I feel on weekday mornings too.

Oh, look. Panda pancake bum!

The orangutan had it figured too.

The newest attraction in town were the koalas. Of course we were there during the day, so we mostly saw koala bums as they slept. One male decided to half-assedly wake up and grunt for a mate for a few minutes before returning to his nap.

One of my favourite attractions was the crazy foot massaging chair that I'm pretty sure could lead to some sort of organ scrambling related death. Weee!!

The Pygmy hippos were pretty fun and the African hippo had a little two-week old baby. There were about 200 people trying to get a glimpse of the well-hidden baby. Every 20 minutes or so, you'd get a peek and the crowd went wild. Because you couldn't really see anything, here's a video of hippo bum instead.

We headed off for a Mexican dinner and muchas margaritas when our day at the zoo was over.
