Ao Nang - Dives 5 & 6

Dives five and six today followed the usual drill of up bright and early and on the boat. First I had breakfast with Lil' Ken. He felt pretty bad that he ate the last yogurt and the coffee out of the fridge, but he didn't want to be hangry while diving... er, flying. Sorry Ang! If it makes you feel better, he had totally had to eat it with a straw because he couldn't find a spoon and totally made a giant mess of his pyjamas... er, feathers. Bad bird.

The first dive site was Ko Ha (literally island five). Today my dive guide was Remi from the Netherlands (I think, sorry if I mixed up your country of origin). I'm now informally renaming this dive site Nudi County, because I already renamed another site Nudi City. In Nudi County I saw all the nudibranchs.

The second dive site was Ko See (island four). It was quite a strong current which made the diving somewhat hard work, but we did a very cool cave swim through. The cave was quite dark and required that you learn the timing of the current. You went down a few feet before you could see the exit of the cave and swim through. As I was making my way through the cave, something grabbed my calf and freaked me out! I was pretty sure it was my dive buddy for the day and not a fierce kraken from the deep... That did not stop me from jolting and banging my tank on the roof of the cave and then snoting up my mask with laughter.

Along the way, I spotted a tiger cowry on the move as well as an incredibly tiny and florescent pink crab. I wasn't really able to get photos of either because of the current being uncooperative though, so you'll just have to go see them yourself.

He's back! That cheeky remora is totally stuck on me again today during and after diving, specifically on my butt. GO AWAY! I am NOT a slow moving shark's slick white underbelly, I'm just an untanned tourist.

That evening when Angela and I regrouped, we headed out to the "secret" beach she had discovered in a cove at the north end of the main Ao Nang beach. Angela has claimed it in the name of Canada and renamed the beach "My Beach".

Techincally "My" refers to Angela. So I have to call it Angie's Beach?
There were a few cool caves on the beach that seemed to be tidal caves. I think they fill completely when the tide comes in each evening, so we did our exploring somewhat quickly.

We saw the usual ladies out stabbing for crustaceans with their butcher knives and spatulas. And a delightfully literal and accurate sign that I quite enjoyed.

On the way back to the main drag to find a spot for dinner, Ang showed me a store that sold ALL THE BUTTERFLIES! I think we were there for more time that I like to admit and also there was an ATM in the store. This is my danger zone. I bought ALL THE BUTTERFLIES!! Again. These are not practical mementos to transport back through customs and into your country, even if you are familiar with the endangered species acts, CITES, and CBSA rules, it is still a big pain in the ass. But clearly the situation got away from me.

Seven butterflies in hand later, we were enjoying gin and tonics at a rooftop seafood restaurant. I guess my saving grace was the drinking came after the shopping or who knows what would have happened.
