Aventura en Peru!

It's adventure time! Llama tell you where we're going... PERU!

My intrepid sister and I are off for two weeks of trekking, camping, ATVing, exploring and alpaca hugging in and around Cusco.

We're kicking things off flying Saskatoon (in Erin's case) to Calgary to Houston to Lima to Cusco to Puerto Maldonado. The first leg of our journey is some of my favourite things - bird and bugs! We're starting in Tambopata National Reserve with four days in the Amazon jungle. We'll sped a few days in a jungle lodge and camping. I'm all aflutter for the opportunity to see bright, bold macaws active in the early hours of the morning on the clay licks. Prepare to be bird nerded...

From the jungle, we head to Cusco a UNESCO World Heritage site. We have a few days to explore the Imperial city of the Incas and the Spanish influences and acclimatize to the altitude (3,399m or 11,152ft). We're off adventuring again by ATV, checking out the Sacred Valley and our sweet quad moves. We may or may not be hitting the rapids too with a whitewater rafting adventure - river conditions and minimum booking group permitting.

Then it's time to lace up the boots and hit the trail. The Inca Trail. We'll be doing four days of hiking in the Peruvian Andes to reach majestic Machu Picchu, an Incan citadel deep in the mountains and one of the new World Wonders. Let's hope there's no probllamas with the weather, but just in case, alpaca my sweater.

From the tops of the Andes, we jump a train back up to Cusco. And then jump out of bed bright and early at 2 am to hop on a bus to drive to different mountains to hike them too. Rainbow Mountains to be specific! Okay, technically we're horseback riding for part of this trek, so we don't have to hoof it the whole time.

We've got another few hours in Cusco (likely spent in a puddle on the floor because my legs will have given out completely) before taking off for home. It's sure to be a whirlwind, but not quite the alpacalypse.

The only question left is how many cats do I pack? They seem to think at least two.

Wool you follow along as we explore Tambopata, Cusco, Machu Picchu, and Rainbow Mountain?
