Lonely Sloth in Search of His Lady Love - A Romance
Once upon a time there lived a lonesome three-toed sloth. Most of his days were spent in idol rest and digestion, but the three hours a day he was awake were spent pining for a lady love all his own. Never venturing far from his home and barely consious for most his life, he wondered when love would wander his way.
Day in and day out he munched on leaves, hung around, grew mold on his speckled fur and longed for a fair female to find him. In a daze of digestion and daydreams, the sloth heard and unusual rustling in his forelorne flora. Surprised into action, he looked to the left...
He regarded the right...
He alerted his ears, swiveled his shoulders, heaved his head and... couldn't believe his eyes! The most beautiful three-toed vision awaited him, spectacled and spectacular. His mottled maiden approached, striking terror and panic into his love-struck heart.
"Hola," she quipped, "Is this tree taken or can any old sloth hang out here?"
Dazzled, he immediatley froze.
"Oookay," she articulated, "I'll just be on my way if this is your tree. After all, there are plenty of trees in the Amazon."
He continued to stare, intently and awkwardly. "Say something you stupid sloth!" he cried out in his mind as his beauty in greenish brown retreated from the tree, but his mouth was indeed too slothful to catch up.
His limbs however, listened to his manic mind and he frantically chased after her. This only served to frighten the female further. She swatted at him in self defense, which fortunately for our lonesome fellow, smacked some sense into his mute mouth as she scampered to safety.
"Wait!" he cried, agonized at watching his chance at happiness slip away. "I... I.."
With an air of caution and suspicion, his hopeful lady love paused and turned to suss him out, raising a cream eyelid above her black masking as if to say "well?".
"I... I..." he stuttered, "I may be slow, but I'm falling fast for you! I'd love nothing more than to spend every day hanging with you and and hug you tight like the branch of this tree. We... we could take it slow or we could... start our own family tree. You climbed into my life, and I want to hold on to this feeling with all twelve toes!"
Blushing bashfully and panting mightily from all that exertion, he waited breathlessly for her response. The seconds felt like days, his anxiety increasing with every heartbeat when she tilted her said to say...
"Now I'm totally hung up on you!" and threw all three toes of her right arm around him.
Darting off at a daring speed, they stole into the denser leaves to broaden the leaves of a new family tree.
