Day 11 - Pushkar continued
Dragged our sorry carcasses out of bed at 4:30 for the hike up to Shavitri Temple. We walked about 2k through town to the base of the mountain. The path up to the temple is a set of continually steeper steps. I'd guess about 200 steps and 1-1.5 kilometres up. It was a sweaty, sweaty hike.
We reached the top just before sunrise and took in the 360 view. I spotted a golden plumed magpie in a tree and successfully got a picture of it! The birds here are not very willing photography subjects.
Also chilling with us at the temple was a whole mob of monkeys. They were pretty complacent unless you had food or were too close.
Down the rocky steps we trekked and off to a yoga class. The class was very different from classes I have taken in the past. The guru designed a slow simple series of stretches and activities for us rather than traditional poses. We did a couple lion faces which helped us transition into some laughing yoga.
Post-yoga, the small group decided to patronize the attached restaurant for long overdue breakfast. Worst. Restaurant. Ever. It took 1 hour and 45 minutes to get a fruit salad and one banana pancake. And there was a bug in the dough at the end of my pancake. When we went to pay, of course he had no change, so the waiter went to a neighbour to make change, but with 7 people paying, he seemingly did not have the foresight to get more change than one individual's change at a time. Argh!!
When breakfast fun times were over, we hightailed it back to the hotel for a swim and a nap.
It was a pretty quiet evening after that. A few girls and I did a little shopping and then met the group at a pizzeria for a really good meal and an actual espresso! Off to Jaipur on the bus tomorrow.
