Arrival in India - Delhi Exploration
We arrived after long yet uneventful flights. The beds in our modest hotel are small and hard, but welcomed after the flight. We meet our tour group in about 15 minutes. It seems pretty full. I'm guessing about 15 people. It is very hot here!
Jill and I spent our first day recovering and went to the Lodi Gardens which had a number of mosque, tomb and fort ruins. Below are pictures of Sikander Lodi's Tomb, Sheesh Gumbad, and Bara Gumbad tomb and mosque.
Besides the various tombs, the park itself was quite lovely: clean, spacious and popular with couples. The benches were makeout city! Not quite the conservative picture of India I had painted in my mind.
I also saw many birds that I tried to chase down with my camera, but they were not very cooperative!
Afterwards, we visited a large market and Jill bought a salwar kameez style shirt and I bought a scarf to cover my head in holy places.
Tomorrow we do some touring before we leave Delhi. We are touring a mosque, a temple and some key districts. Then we're on our way to the desert for a camel trek.
I do not have free wi-fi or easily accessible internet, so you may not hear from me too often. Bye for now!
